Small, Silent 1.0TB LinkStation Mini with Maxi features
~ Buffalo Technology first to offer NAS device with 2.5” drives ~

18/04/2008

London, UK, 18 April 2008 – Buffalo Technology has launched the LinkStation Mini, its smallest and quietest Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, capable of storing a terabyte of data. Despite its diminutive size, the device offers a wide range of features and boasts high performance via a Gigabit Ethernet connection. Two 500GB 2.5” drives provide a large amount of capacity in a small space which, together with its silent operation, make it an ideal option for the home and professional user.

The LinkStation Mini (LS-WS1.0TGL/R1) responds to user demand for a device that can store and share large amounts of digital content in a compact product – measuring 40x82x135mm and weighing just half a kilo. The device does not require a fan, and its 2.5” drives require less power than 3.5” drives. It can also be set to automatically power on/off with the PC, further reducing power consumption*.

The device comes equipped with Buffalo’s Web Access feature, which enables users to instantly and securely access all digital files stored on the product situated at home or office, via an internet connection. It also includes a built-in DLNA-Certified™ media server by TwonkyVision which enables playback of multimedia files through any DLNAcompatible media player. The Direct Copy function enables multimedia files to be transferred directly onto the device from a digital camera, camcorder, USB flash drive or USB storage.

Other features include:

• Integration with iTunes® 7 so that users can access music on the move
• Built-in print server
• Easy setup and automatic backup via Memeo® software
• Ability to expand storage capacity by attaching an external drive through USB port
on the device
• RAID 0 and 1 to offer the option of full data redundancy and security
• Active Directory and NT Domain Support
• Protects data by restricting access with group and user level security
• Auto-Sensing 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Port
• JumboFrame support
• Support for users of Windows 2000/XP/Vista™ & Mac OS X 10.3 or higher

Gerardine Lynch, Product Marketing Manager at Buffalo Technology, comments: “We have developed this product in line with consumer demand for a feature-packed, silent, compact NAS solution – and in so doing, have also acknowledged market concern in the area of power consumption.”

The LinkStation Mini will be available from the end of May from Misco, Insight and Dabs.com, at an estimated street price of £239.99, excluding VAT. A 500GB version is also planned.

Buffalo is constantly reviewing and revising the prices of all its products in line with market demand. For the latest pricing please contact Berkeley PR at buffalo@berkeleypr.co.uk / 0118 988 2992.

*To use this feature on the network, NAS Navigator must be installed on all laptops/PCs. The LinkStation Mini will then power-on with the first PC/laptop to be switched on and power-off with the last one to be switched off.
